ReadiBus - for people with restricted mobility

ReadiBus is the dial-a-ride bus service for people with restricted mobility in and around Reading, UK.

Since the service was founded in the early 1980s ReadiBus has met the transport needs of many thousands of people with all kinds of mobility needs. The bus service is for people of all ages who can’t make use of the mainstream bus services offered in the area. When ReadiBus started out, mainstream bus services and other forms of public transport were much more difficult for people with restricted mobility to use. Since then, accessible public transport has come on by leaps and bounds, but so has the ability of venues, shops and public buildings to welcome people with restricted mobility. All this means ReadiBus serves more people than ever and over a great range of ages and abilities.

ReadiBus has always invested in training for our staff and volunteers. Of course there are safety procedures and other routines that it is essential that everyone working with ReadiBus understands.

ReadiBus is a registered charity. ReadiBus is supported by community grants from local authorities as well as through individual fundraising and legacies.

If you have restricted mobility, or you care for a person who has, you can from this website request to register to use the ReadiBus service and, once your application has been approved make booking requests.

Of course you can still contact ReadiBus by calling (0118) 931 0000 (English) or (0118) 923 8759 (Urdu).

Covid-19:

The ReadiBus service was available throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, including during the three lockdowns for journeys such as for vaccination appointments, for shopping; for respite; for going to a doctor surgery; for a hospital appointment; or for any other reason.

Over 70,000 safe essential journeys were made on ReadiBus from the start of the first lockdown in March 2020 to November 2021, including over 2,000 journeys during that first lockdown in 2020.

We continue to maintain intensive cleaning regimes and procedures with a view to making the travelling environment as safe as possible. You may wish to consider wearing a face covering if you are able to whilst travelling. Please do not travel if you are displaying symptoms of being unwell or if you are living in a household where someone is displaying symptoms of being unwell.

We received some very good feedback on our service during the Covid-19 pandemic from organisations including the RBH and Macmillan. If you would like to read more about this, click here to read the article on Reading Voluntary Action's website.

ReadiBus was also judged in the 'Community Transport Provider of the Year' category at the Community Transport Awards in November 2021 as one of the top three community transport services in the UK for its service provision during the pandemic, and the best in England. You can read the full story here
